Obituary of Charles A. McCarthy

Charles A. McCarthy, 97, of Syracuse (formerly of the Valley), passed away with his family at his side, on Saturday, Dec. 30th.  Born in Syracuse to Edward and Mary McCarthy in 1926. He graduated from St. John the Baptist High School and went on to serve his country faithfully in the US Navy during WW2.  Upon returning home, he achieved one year of business college. Chuck later married Janet Brogan and raised eight children together. He spent 30 years in the insurance industry. Chuck was affectionately known as Coach Mac, from his many years coaching basketball at St. James School. Upon retirement, Chuck enjoyed work as a craftsman. Chuck and his family were communicants of St. James Church for 75 years.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 61 years, Janet (Brogan) McCarthy; 3 sons, Joe, Phil and Mike McCarthy and 1 daughter; Janet McCarthy.

Chuck is survived by; 3 sons, Chuck (Vera), Chris (Barb) and Tim (Laurie) McCarthy; 1 daughter; Mary (Max) Jones; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Thursday, January 4th at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home 4612 S. Salina St. Syracuse, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 5th 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Hope Church (formerly St. James) Salina St. Syracuse, NY.

Burial will follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
