Obituary of Matilde Torres

Matilde Torres, 75, of Syracuse, departed this life peacefully on October 13, 2023, at Crouse Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Matilde was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico on September 17, 1948. She is survived by eight siblings, Manuel Torres, Norma Torres, Margarita Gonzalez (Manuel), Rafaela Sanchez Vega, Maria Rivera (Santos), Angel Torres (Myrta), Jose Torres and Maria Torres-Avery (Steve), many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews whom she adored. Her close friend of many years Ramona (Tata) Cartagena who was like a sister to her and her many other friends who were like family.

She was predeceased by her only child Edwin Jimenez, her partner of 43 years Nicolas Vega, her parents and four siblings.

Matilde loved music, dancing and especially cooking great meals for her family and friends. She was the happiest when she had a house full of people to feed.

Calling hours will be Friday, October 20, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon followed by a service at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 South Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205, followed by burial at Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
