Obituary of Sharon Lee "Cookie" Thomas

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of the world's number 1 Elvis fan, Sharon Lee "Cookie" Thomas, 79, of the Onondaga Nation, proud member of the Oneida Nation, Turtle Clan, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer.  She worked at the Valley Branch of Marine Midland Bank and Lafayette Central School District, before her retirement.  She also worked many years at the Indian Village of the NYS Fair with her grandmother, Amanda Thomlinson.  She was an avid bowler and in her younger days a member of the Onondaga Nation volunteer fire dept. ladies auxiliary where she participated in many parades and functions.  She also organized walks to raise money for the March of Dimes. 

She is predeceased by a son, Duane Cook; father, Kenneth Thomas; mother, Sadie "Mickey" Thomas; a sister, Wava Carpenter; brothers, Walley Thomas, Kenneth Thomas Jr. and Mickey Thomas.

Sharon is survived by her loving son, Wayne Cook; grandchildren, Shawna Cook, Kenneth Cook, Taylor Cook and Elli Cook; brothers, Roy Thomas, John Thomas, Keith Thomas, and Barry Thomas; sisters, Anne Cooke, Ruth "Candy" Hill, Terry Smith, Kathy Thomas and Mary Jock; and countless nieces and nephews; and her constant companion, Squirt "Babe".

Calling Hours will be Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 3-5PM at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY.  Services will follow at 5PM.
