Obituary of Vernita L. Hughes

Vernita L. Hughes, age 67, of 101 Pierce Street, Syracuse, New York died Thursday, May 1, 2003 at Community General Hospital, Onondaga Hill, New York. Vernita was born August 27, 1935 in Laurel, Delaware, the daughter of Monroe and Pauline (Brake) Anderson. She was President of VCC Paving Company, Syracuse, NY for 35 years. She was a communicant of St. James Church. Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband Charles S. Cox; five daughters, Joanne Walker, Vera M. Walker, Larae V. Rogers and Melissa S. Cox all of Syracuse, New York and Cheryl M. Walker of Buffalo, New York; six sons, Wayne T. Hughes, Michael J. Walker, Donald K. Walker, Allen J. Walker, William L. Trice, and Keith A. Trice all of Syracuse, New York; one brother, Louis Laws of Coverdale Crossroads, Deleware; 40 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel and Charles Cox. Services: Tuesday, May 6, 2003, 11:00 a.m. in St. James Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Father Daniel J. O'Hara. Burial: Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York. Calling Hours: Monday, May 5, 2003, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 4612 S.
