Obituary of William F. Harmatuk

William Francis Harmatuk 78, of Syracuse, New York died peacefully at Iroquois Nursing Home with his family at his bedside. William was born May 10, 1925 in Syracuse, New York, the son of William F. and Frances Agnes (Kolcezak) Harmatuk. He was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy. He coached hockey at Onondaga Valley and played for the Syracuse Stars. He served in the U.S. Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II. He was a Syracuse Firefighter over 30 years and retired in 1982. Mr. Harmatuk is survived by his wife of 53 years Aileen Barr Harmatuk; one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and James Godzac of Pompey, New York; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard W. and Lois Harmatuk of Lafayette, New York and William J. and Mary Jo Harmatuk of Syracuse, New York; one sister, Dr. Frances Di Minno and one brother, Peter J. Harmatuk both of New Bern, North Carolina; 6 grandchildren. Services: Friday, May 9, 2003, 8:45 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc. and 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes, 300 Valley Drive, Syracuse, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Father Thomas Fitzpatrick and Father Dennis Hayes. Burial: Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse. Friends may call Thursday, May 8, 2003, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse.
