Obituary of Floyd S. Woodworth

Floyd S. Woodworth, age 87, of 101 Ferndale Drive, Syracuse, New York died Monday, June 16, 2003 at Iroquois Nursing Home, Jamesville, New York. Floyd was born April 29, 1916 in Fayetteville, New York the son of Floyd S. and Marie Woodworth. He was born and raised on the family farm on Woodchuck Hill Road and Snooks Pond. As a child he received personal pitching lessons from Babe Ruth on the pitcher's mound prior to the games in Cleveland, Ohio. He married Mary E. Goettel in 1937 in St. John the Baptist Church. He enjoyed his summer home on Groman Shores at Sandy Pond, New York. He was employed at Crouse Hinds for 40 years, retiring as a Group Leader in 1979. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church and an active member of the Pastime Athletic Club. He was a past member of American Legion Valley Post 1468 and Valley Men's Club. Mr. Woodworth is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary E. (Goettel) Woodworth; three sons, Edward W. Woodworth of North Syracuse, New York, Robert J. Woodworth of Liverpool, New York and Richard C. Woodworth of Syracuse, New York; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Funeral: Thursday, June 19, 2003, 9:15 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc. and 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1515 Midland Avenue, Syracuse, New York where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Father Robert Chryst.
