Obituary of John P. Luke

John P. Luke, Sr., age 84, of Syracuse, New York died Saturday, November 22, 2003 at home. John was born October 5, 1919 in Syracuse, New York, the son of George E. and Agnes (McNeil) Luke. He was a graduate of St. Anthony of Padua High School. He retired from New York Telephone in 1982 following 37 years of service as an installer and repairperson. He was a communicant of St. James Church and a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, stationed in Pearl Harbor. Mr. Luke is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Streck Luke; one son and daughter-in-law, John P. (Wanda) Luke Jr. of LaFayette, New York; two sisters, Alice Merriman of North Syracuse, New York and Louise LaMott of Baldwinsville, New York; one brother, James Luke of Dearborn, Michigan; three grandchildren, Angela Luke of New York City, New York, John P. Luke III of LaFayette, New York and Zachary Luke of LaFayette, New York. Services: Wedesday, November 26, 2003, 8:30 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., and 9:00 a.m. in St. James Church, 4845 S. Salina St., Syracuse where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Father Daniel J. O'Hara. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, 4100 E. Genesee Street, Dewitt, New York.
