Obituary of Leon L. Koons

Devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all, Leon L. Koons, 78, of Cardiff, New York died Monday, November 22, 2004 at Community General Hospital, Onondaga Hill, New York. Leon was born December 13, 1925 in Shamokan, Pennsylvania, the son of Edward and Amy Pearl (Cook) Koons. He moved to Upstate New York after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Crucible Steel as a crane operator following 36 years of service. Leon was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn M. Koons who passed away in 2003, a daughter Mary Ann "His Baby" Koons who passed away in 1969, a son William Koons who passed away in 1979, and a grand daughter Chelsea Koons who passed away in 1998. Surviving are three sons, Leon W. "Butch" (Kim) of Cicero, New York, John E. (Julia) of Houston, Texas and Robert H. Koons of Syracuse, New York; a daughter, Darlene Fanning (George) of Long Island, New York; a brother Elmer Koons of Lafayette, New York and two sisters Leona and Grace both of California; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Services: Saturday, November 27, 2004, 11:00a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Michael Grinnals officiating. Burial: Lafayette Rural Cemetery, Route 11, LaFayette, New York.
