Obituary of George R. Carr

George R. Carr, 87, of The Valley, Syracuse, New York, died Sunday, March 13, 2005 at Community General Hospital, Onondaga Hill, New York. George was born March 5, 1918 in Plattsburgh, New York, the son of William and Arma (Rollier) Carr. He was a graduate of University of Maine at Bangor. He taught journalism at Onondaga Community College and worked with the South Side News in Syracuse. He retired as an editor with The Post Standard in 1998 after 49 years. He was previously managing editor of The Press Republican in Plattsburgh until 1959. He enjoyed traveling and summers at Lake Champlain, New York and winters at Anna Maria Island, Florida. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lynn Carr in 1993. George is survived by his wife, the former Jean Mehan; three daughters and son-in-law, Corrie Lopipero of Camillus, New York, Barbara Carr of Liverpool, New York and Kimberly and Eric Broeker of Cicero, New York; two sons and daughter-in-law, William G. and Patricia Carr of Plattsburgh, New York and James S. Carr of Plattsburgh, New York; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Service: Wednesday, March 16, 2005, 9:00 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes, 300 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Father Thomas Fitzpatrick. Burial: Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York. Calling Hours: Tuesday, March 15, 2005, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, New York.
