Obituary of Harold C. Burke

Harold C. Burke, 81, of Marietta, New York died Monday, January 2, 2006 at Crouse Hospital. Harold was born June 2, 1924 in Syracuse, New York, the son of Harold C. Burke Sr. and Cecelia Pauls Burke. He attended Syracuse University School of Forrestry and retired from New York Central Railroad as an Engineer in 1986 following 30 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Otisco, New York and was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Leader and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving in WWII, receiving the Purple Heart and retired from the National Guard. Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Ruth E. Sweeton; five daughters, Catherine (Bill) Madigan of Johnsonville, New York, Patricia (Roy) Saunders of Skaneateles, New York, Jeanne (Tom) Russo of Sennett, New York, Sandra Holmes of Otisco, New York and Karen (Dean) Christie-Bibbens of Syracuse, New York; one son, Terrance (Lori) Burke of Galway, New Yorki; one sister, Delores Dix of Iowa; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Services: Friday, January 6, 2006, 10:15 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home and 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Route 80, Otisco, New York. Burial: Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 4069 Howlett Hill Road, Syracuse, New York.
