Obituary of Jo Ann Gormley

Jo Ann Gormley, 76, of LaFayette, passed in peace at home surrounded by her children on January 9th, 2022. She was born in Syracuse, NY to the late George and Dorothy Field in October 1945.

After graduating LaFayette High School, she went on to earn a degree from SUNY Brockport. Jo Ann worked as a school teacher for 42 years, predominantly in the Syracuse City School District. She met her late husband, John Gormley, while living in LaFayette. They married in November 1973 and went on to have six children. Jo Ann loved her community, and was proud to have grown up in Cardiff on the Field Fruit Farm.

She built a home with her husband, John, just a short distance up the hill from the apple orchards where she grew up. Every year she looked forward to the changing of the leaves in Cardiff Valley, and especially the apple season. Jo Ann was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She welcomed everyone into her home, and made a point to always make people she met feel loved. She enjoyed flowers, birds, and singing (especially Patsy Cline).

Jo Ann is survived by: children; John W. (Beth), Jr., of Colorado Springs, CO, James (Jacqueline) of Hampton Bays, NY, Michael (Mary) of LaFayette, NY, and Brian (Lina) of Manhasset, NY, Patricia Woodbury of Stuart, FL, and Elizabeth (Patrick) Seemann of Palm City, FL; brothers, Phillip (Mary) Field, Karl (Kathy) Field, and Michael (Robin) Field; and 10 grandchildren: Reese, Kiersten, Isabella, John III, Emilia, Harper, James, Charlotte, Theo, and Juliet.
