Obituary of Katherine Elizabeth Miller

Our beautiful, beloved wife and mom, Katherine Elizabeth (Nutting) Miller of LaFayette, has gone to join her deceased beloved family on October 18, 2018. Katherine was surrounded by her family.

Katherine was very active at St. Matthew Episcopal Church, Moravia where she discovered her love for singing. She was taken under the wing of Mrs. Wycoff who trained Katherine for an opera career. Katherine’s beautiful voice was popular and she would sing at weddings and church events. Her last recorded song being Silent Night.

Katherine worked for many years at the Modern Market in Moravia where she was always willing to help those in need without any hesitation. During her school years Katherine met the love of her life, Kenneth. They both attended Moravia High School where Kenneth was the basketball star and Katherine was the cheerleader. It was love at first sight.

Katherine married Kenneth on July 25, 1954 at St. Mathews Church followed by a lovely lawn reception. Within the first few years of marriage, they welcomed their children, Kenneth, Jr. and Cindy. Katherine was a devoted wife and mother, taking care of the home and family. As their children grew up, Katherine broaden her horizons. Katherine started her second career working at the LaFayette Lanes and cleaning homes. She then went on to be a dental assistant to Dr. Arnold Baum, ending her career at M & T Bank where she was a very popular teller. Shortly after retirement, they moved to Florida. Katherine loved to travel and went on numerous cruises and family vacations to the many beaches in Florida.

Katherine was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Louis Nutting; sisters, Lillian (Marullo) and Louise (Elser).

Katherine is survived by her husband of 64 years, Kenneth E. Sr.; two children, son, Kenneth E. Jr. and daughter, Cindy (Harold) Heckerman; four grandchildren, Kenneth III (Tina), Harold Jr. (Sophie), Douglas, Brittany (Mike); four great-grandchildren, Zack, Camero, Kenneth IV and Andrew.  

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 with a funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette, NY 13084. Contributions can be made to Hospice of CNY and Upstate Cancer Center.
