Obituary of Frances L. Malfitano

Frances L. “Fran” Malfitano, 93, of The Valley in Syracuse, NY, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at home.  Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Raul and Marie (Savage) Dumont.  Fran was employed at Canadian Cotton Mill and Powdrell & Alexander before she immigrated to the United States to marry her late husband, Salvatore A. Malfitano.  She worked as a sales associate at Sibley’s for 16 years.  After retirement, Fran and Sam wintered in Myrtle Beach, SC, and attended many USS Delta Navy reunions around the country. Fran was a member of Brampton U, a women’s social and philanthropic group on the south side for 20 years.  She hosted many international students from Syracuse University for several years.  She loved to cook, listen to swing music, crochet and loved traveling on senior bus trips to local casinos.

Fran is survived by her daughter, Mimi Malfitano of Alexandria, VA; and sister, Murielle (Berube) of Laval, Quebec, Canada; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore in 2015, son, Ralph in 1992, and brothers, Gaetan and Gerard.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205, with a memorial service to follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.  Memorial gifts may be made to PACE CNY through the Loretto Foundation, 700 E.
