Amy (Annecchini) Shattell

Obituary of Amy Rosalie (Annecchini) Shattell

Amy (Emelia) Rosalie Annecchini (Shattell), age 92 of Syracuse, NY,  joined her beloved husband, Robert, in heaven on November 6, 2021.  Amy was born in San Vito, Italy and came to this country at 18 months old with her family.  Her younger years were spent in Saltsburg, PA and even at age 92, she could name every classmate, along with their stories.  At 19 years old, she met Robert Shattell at a dance and within just a few months they were married and spent 67 years together, in Syracuse, before Robert passed away.  Amy held several jobs over the years including Syracuse China, painting gold around the dishes; Meachem School cafeteria; Marble Farms and Fanny Farmer!  Mostly, however, she spent her days raising their family of 7 children along with any friends who hung out whenever they had the chance.  Their same starter-home was jokingly called their ending-home too.  Family and friends could always count on being fed and then fed again.  Even if there was food left on your plate, she insisted she bring you more. She never, ever forgot a birthday or an anniversary.  If your address was available to her, you would receive a card, sometimes with a dollar in it, and sometimes with a random newspaper clipping that reminded her of you.  This woman of God, who was so simple in her lifestyle, accepted only gifts that would benefit others.  Every person and animal that ever crossed her pathway received a wonky-shaped crocheted blanket.  Music was always part of her day, mastering singing her own tunes and making up her own verses.  But “I love you a bushel and a peck” was the best when she would reach up to hug the stuffing out of your neck!  Her neighborhood knew her as the kindest heart on the street and even in her 80s she was bringing in their trash cans, shoveling sidewalks, baking cookies and providing flags for every “flag” holiday imaginable.  She loved her Jesus, family and her country.  The world will have a giant void without her in it, but heaven has gained tremendously.

Amy is predeceased by her husband, Robert, and daughter, Donna Shattell.  Surviving children are Fred (RoseAnne) Shattell, Bob (Patty) Shattell, Suzanne (Mark) Searle, Lisa (John) Tabor, Gina Shattell and Jeffrey (Kim) Shattell.  She is blessed with 14 grandchildren, Stephanie, Fred, Anthony, Nicholas, Natalie, Joseph, Bob, Rosalie, Andrea, Michael, Emilie, Bailey, Tessa and Jeremy and their spouses.  Her great grandchildren number 14! Her nieces and nephews adored her, and she loved them even more. Her heart was full of joy whenever any of her family was around her.

Special thanks to all those who provided care to her over the past couple years.
