Obituary of Carol Swan Harrington

Carol Swan Harrington, 80, of Syracuse, passed away on September 22, 2021. She was born October 13, 1940 in Watertown, NY to the late Theodore B. and Dorothy G. (Myrick) Swan. Carol graduated from Watertown H.S. in 1958. She attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, where she was a member of the Westminster National Touring Choir.

High school sweethearts, Carol and Ed Harrington were married September 10, 1960. They lived for several years in Cambridge, Mass. before settling in Syracuse. During her time here Carol was a contralto soloist for St. Paul’s Cathedral choir, the Bach Choir, and the Temple Adath Yeshurin professional choir. For a number of years she also performed roles with Syracuse Musical Theater, Limestone Theater, Landmark Theater Wing, Rex Henriot Dinner Theater and Shattuck/Nye Productions. During these years Carol worked the front desk for St Paul’s Cathedral and then for the University Club of Syracuse. She became a copywriter for Omni Communications, Sage Marcom, and finally for Eric Mower and Associates, until her retirement.

Carol was a delightful and talented person. She was devoted to her family, friends, rescue dogs and gardens. In later years she enjoyed spending time at her summer home in Lake Placid.

Carol is survived by: her husband of 61 years, Edwin I. Harrington III; son, Edwin I. Harrington IV of Syracuse; daughter, Catherine H. (Thomas) Byrne of Jamesville; and five grandchildren: Nicholas P. Byrne, Maxwell T. Byrne, Jillian H. Byrne, Edwin I. Harrington V, and Lily J. Harrington. She is also survived by a sister, Diane Dudley of Fairport; brothers, Robert Swan of Tennessee, and Mason M. Swan of Watertown; as well as many nieces and nephews.
