Obituary of Thomas Ole Carpenter

Thomas O. Carpenter (Tom), 79, of Skaneateles passed away on Sunday January 17^th peacefully with family by his side. He was born February 2, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Leonard “Kip” Carpenter and Lillian Carpenter. He was a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area.

Tom graduated from Marcellus High School in 1958. He is an Air Force Staff Sergeant veteran and was the President of Fred Carpenter Heavy & Specialized Transportation. He also worked at Hallamore Corporation where he logged over a million miles across the U.S. hauling heavy specialized loads including equipment for NASA, bridge beams, compressors, boilers and even a submarine driveshaft.

Growing up, Tom and his family spent their summers on Otisco Lake. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He loved to read, particularly about astronomy and science. In his later years Tom occupied his time solving crosswords and word search puzzles, but his favorite pastime was tuning in each weeknight to play Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! He could always be counted on for a good joke, riddle and a laugh.  Tom was a family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by two children Wendy Jenkins of Baldwinsville and Jeffrey (Audrey) of Jamesville, four grandchildren Alyssa Jenkins, Alexandra Jenkins, Emilee Carpenter and Adam Carpenter. He is also survived by a brother Leonard (Marsha) of Hamlin, NY and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Central New York & of the Finger Lakes for the kind support and compassion during the final weeks of his life.

Calling hours will be Friday January 22^nd from 4 to 6 pm at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 2584 Field Lane Lafayette, NY. A short service to celebrate Tom’s life will follow at 6 pm.
