Obituary of John K. Hobart

John K. Hobart, a life-long member of the Otisco community, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle accident at the age of 63 with his partner Charlena Avery Foster. 

John was born in 1957 to the late Lyle Hobart and Roberta Gay  Thompson. He was a graduate of Tully High School, Class of 1975. He dedicated his career to working for the Tully Central School District for a total of forty-two years. During this time, he worked as a School Bus Driver, Custodian and eventually was granted the role of Head Custodian at the school. He was a lifetime member of the Otisco Volunteer Fire Department where he held the position of treasurer and was commissioner for the Fire District. He also served his community as the town assessor for the Town of Otisco. In addition, he devoted his time to being an avid member of the Southern Hills Motorcycle Posse. 

John was devoted to his community and family. He expressed his love for his community through his apparent involvement. He enjoyed his leisure time embracing his family with open arms and all of his heart. His passions consisted of camping, John Deere, motorcycling, and the quest for a good IPA while traveling and visiting the beautiful destinations that NY has to offer. 

John is survived by his son, John Steven Hobart; his brother, Lyle "Jim" Hobart (Susan); his sisters, Carey Sevier (Richard) and Mary R. Hobart-Barnhart; and his brother-in-law, Steven Reed (Jean). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. 

He is predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Reed Hobart; his daughter, Suzanne Marie; his brother, Timothy C. Hobart; and his brother-in-law, Phillip Reed.

Services will be at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home in LaFayette, NY, on Friday, November 13, 2020. Calling hours will be held from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm with a memorial service to follow. This is all depending on COVID 19 restrictions. Face covering and social distancing will be required and enforced.

Due to COVId-19, the family of John K.Hobart appreciate your thoughts and prayers, but at this time we would like to extend a message in regaurds to the safety and wll being of friends and family.

We understand if you don't feel comfortable coming to celebrate John's life in person during the trying time. Throught the course of the sevice, we will be following CDC guidelines of wearing masks and participating in social distancing.  There will also be a limited capacity (subject to change with Governer's  madiate) of only35 people inside the funeral home  at one time.

The funeral home will be offering a virtural viewing for those of you who wish to view the memorial service but not in person. We ask that anyone who may be susceptible to COVID-19 cor who have come in contact with anyone with the virus please use the link to join us vistual.
