Obituary of Karen Lee Hurst

Karen Lee Hurst, 72, of Syracuse, passed away on June 1, 2020. She was born in Syracuse, in April 1948 to parents Leland and “Beanie” Hurst. 

She started her career in the banking industry. “ Karen has talents and abillities beyond the ordinary.”  “She is a warm, friendly person that sincerely cares”.  “her integrity and loyalty are unsurppassed”. These are quotes from her employers throughout her career.  

She moved with her young family to Elmira NY.  She would later relocate to Palm Harbor, Florida for a few years before returning to Syracuse to work at Upstate Community General.  Over the twenty plus years at Upstate, her reputation for being a tenacious worker with integrity continued to grow throughout.  She had many roles over the years professionally.  But being a mom and “grammy” was her true passion and loved above and beyond all else.  

She fiercely loved her two sons, Randall and Ryan, as well as her granddaughters Melissa, Audrey and Parker.  Two sisters Kris and Kathy and many nieces and nephews are also survived.  Karen suffered for the last few years of her life with dementia and lived out her days under full time care at Loretto.  We know that her suffering is over and she doesn’t have to be tormented by such an awful disease for one more second.  We miss you mom, Aunt Karen and Grammy Karen and always will.   We are sorry we couldn’t be along your side as you completed your journey on Earth.  You gave us exactly what we needed.  You always made sure we were loved and that we mattered in this world.  We only hope you knew you were loved and mattered in this world too.
