Obituary of Sterling L. Mason, Sr.

Sterling L. Mason, Sr., 74, of Syracuse, passed away on February 6, 2020. Born in Macon, Georgia in March 1945, to the late Julius and Ida Celestine (Ribbron) Mason, he was one of eight children. After attending Battle Hudson High School, he moved to Syracuse, New York; where he spent the majority of his lifetime. He completed chef school and went on to work at Syracuse University, and then Syracuse University Club as a Chef. After many years there, he retired, but never really stopped working. He operated his own garden business, and enjoyed selling his vegetables. He also ran a “junking” business, that he later sold. He was often referred to as “Green Man”; for his love of money was wide- known.

Sterling is survived by his children: Sterling L. (Aishia) Mason, Jr. of Baldwinsville, NY, Julius Mason, Raniece Dixon, Derrick “Crawley” Mason, Anita “Mama” Mason, Lisa “Bird” Mason, Tony, and “Shay Shay”. He also leaves behind siblings: Joyce L. Mason, Kim Y. Barlow, Kay V. Mason, all of Macon, GA; Keith B. (Karyn) Mason of Clemmons, NC, Michael C. Johnson, of Greenville, SC; Patricia A. Braswell, MSW, of Chula Vista, CA; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his siblings: Audra Renea Mason, and Julius “Chubby” Mason, Jr.
