Carole Jovan

Obituary of Carole Jovan

Carole (Van Horn) Jovan, 75, died peacefully on January 1st , 2020.  Carole lived with breast cancer almost half of her life, having been diagnosed in 1985.  For several years she managed to fight it off, slow it down and keep it at bay.  Like her mother she was a survivor and a fighter, and that spirit made her an inspiration to all who knew her.

Carole, daughter of Wendell and Ardell Van Horn, was born on March 26, 1944.  She grew up in the Valley and was a graduate of Valley High School and CCBI.  Carole married her husband Jerry, an army veteran, in 1965.  They raised their family in the Fabius area and then returned to the Valley that she loved for the remainder of her life.  She retired from her career as a Workers Compensation Rep at Crouse Health in 2008.

Carole was very creative and enjoyed sewing, gardening, garage and estate sales.  She also enjoyed traveling to visit or vacation with family.   Most recently Carole enjoyed curling up and resting with her beloved cat Penny Peanut.

She is survived by her husband Gerald Jovan, two sons Gregory (Kimberly) Jovan of Gilbert, AZ and Christopher Jovan of Quebec Canada, grandchildren Jeremie, Naomie, Victoria and Christopher and great granddaughter Sophia, four sisters Barbara (William) Giarrosso, Susan (David) Linehan, Eleanor Pollock (Art Gladstone) and Shirley (Jeff) Hunter.

A short memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday January 4th at Ballweg & Lunsford funeral home, 4612 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY, with the burial immediately following at noon.
