Obituary of Bernard J. Rymarchyk

Bernard J. Rymarchyk, 78, of Jamesville, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 19th at Upstate University Hospital.  He was born in Dembo, PA to Ann and Nick Rymarchyk Sr.. He graduated from Penn State with a degree in Chemical Engineering.  He retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb, in Syracuse after a 30 year career there. 

Bernie was very dedicated to his family and his career, and spent time with family and friends on his sailboat on Oneida Lake and later the Thousand Islands. Bernie loved sailing, canoeing, camping and wood working.  He helped to start the Oneida Lake Sailing Club. Once he retired, he pursued many interests. He taught English to Spanish-speaking immigrants at the West Side Learning Center, and learned Spanish which helped when he volunteered for the Red Cross and an archaeology trip to Nicaragua.  He was a member of the Orchard Vali Golf League. Bernie would spend summers canoeing and camping with family, friends, and on his own. His favorite places to do this were the Adirondacks and The Boundary Waters in Minnesota. During the winter, he would build furniture and canoes, cross-country ski, snowshoe, and take his granddaughter sledding.  The rest of the time he would garden and travel with his wife, Barbara, visiting their daughters, attending their granddaughter’s concerts, and traveling around the country.

He is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Charles Rymarchyk.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara J. Rymarchyk; three daughters: Gretchen Rymarchyk, Jessica (Jeff Read) Rymarchyk and Stacia (Stan Worthley) Rymarchyk; two grandchildren: his beloved granddaughter, Tala Linnae Solomon and new grandson, Samuel Haskell Rymarchyk; brother Nick (Marcia) Rymarchyk Jr.; sister-in-law Susan (John) Bauer; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.  Services will be private.
