Obituary of Bertha P. King

Bertha M. Pedersen King, 105, of LaFayette, NY died on September 14 at Iroquois Nursing Home. She was born April 21, 1914 in Hornell, NY to Olava and Thomas Pedersen, and spent her early childhood years in Norway, moving with her family to Syracuse in 1924. She graduated from Vocational High School in 1933. She married John Paul King in 1937; they lived in Goldsboro, NC for 3 years before returning to LaFayette.  Bertha is survived by her children, Judith Reich of Marco Is., FL, Andrea King of LaFayette and Thomas King of Victor, NY;  grandchildren Claud and Caroline Reich and Jennifer King; great-grandchildren Sarah and Ryan King and Dakota and Zachary Blair, and by nieces and nephews in America and cousins in Norway and Denmark. She was predeceased by her husband, her sister Esther Stowell, her brothers Floyd and Leif Pedersen, and her grandson John Paul King II. Bertha was an avid bowler, golfer, gardener, and knitter, and was famous for the stories she told. She had many friends. She was a member of the Golden Circle of the Columbian Presbyterian Church in LaFayette. Calling hours will be held Thursday September 19 from 4 to 7 PM at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday September 20 at 10 AM at Columbian Presbyterian Church, Rts. 11 & 20, LaFayette, 13084. Burial will follow in LaFayette Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or to the ASPCA, 5878 E. Molloy Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211.
