Obituary of Casper E. Shetler
Casper E. “Cap” Shetler, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2019 at Cortland Park Nursing Home, Cortland, New York surrounded by his family. Cap was the son of the late Lloyd and Anna Shetler. Born November 1, 1921, Cap graduated from Tully High School in 1938. After graduation he went to work at Cine`Simplex Corporation in Syracuse, New York building Norden bombsights.
Cap joined the United States Coast Guard in July 1942, stationed in Ocean City, Maryland where he met his wife Beatrice V. (Downes) Shetler. They were married April 3, 1944 after which Cap was shipped to the South Pacific where he finished his Coast Guard career, honorably discharged November 1945.
Cap and Bea settled in Tully Valley where they raised three children. Cap was a self-employed building contractor, building many homes in the Tully, LaFayette and South Onondaga area.
Cap is survived by his wife, Beatrice V. Shetler; daughter, Judith Baker (Andrew); granddaughters, Deborah Barnhart (Christopher), Stephanie Cimineri (David); great granddaughter, Ella Cimineri; brother, Warren Shetler; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by sons, Terry E. and Thomas C. Shetler; sister, Eunice Johnson and brother, Gordon Shetler.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Friday May 17, 2019 at 12:00 noon at South Onondaga Cemetery.
