Obituary of Jessie C. Mondore

Jessie C. Mondore, 92, of LaFayette, NY passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018. She was loved and adored by many and will be greatly missed.

Jessie was born in South Gilboa near Stamford, NY to Frederick Oakley and Maude Reed Oakley. She was one of seven children: Lottie Oakley Pierce Merwin, Luther, Fred “Junior," Virgil, Imer and Victor Oakley. She was a graduate of Stamford Central Schools in Stamford, NY, Class of 1946.

Jessie married Irving Carson Mondore, the love of her life, on September 19, 1948. Irving was a very kind gentleman and had many ambitions in his life, one being the birth of the Syracuse Auto Auction in LaFayette, operating it until his death in August 11, 1977. Jessie also worked at the auction managing the cafeteria and quickly became a friendly face the dealers were always happy to see. Her smiling face greeted dealers for decades to come even after her husband passed away.

Jessie loved her family very much. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She enjoyed crafting and shared that love with grandchildren. She also loved taking pictures and doing puzzles. One thing she was especially proud of was the many stories she would write and share with family and friends. She always looked forward to taking her road trips to “The Catskills” to visit her sister, Lottie, and family. She adored her cat, “Poodie”. She looked forward to seeing the Meals on Wheels delivery people come, as they were always so kind, and always brought a smile to her day.

Jessie leaves behind her four children and their spouses: Irving J. Mondore, Jr. (Becky Yelle), Robert J. Mondore (Patty Wilson), Joyce A. Stanton (Roderick), and Lawrence F. Mondore (Sheila Craft), and eleven grandchildren: Timothy, Tammy, Nicole, Carrie, William, Daniel, Amanda, Colleen, Corey, Robert and David. She was predeceased by grandson Paul M. Mondore. She leaves 10 great‐grandchildren: Makayla, Katelin, Tristan, Jax, Leland, Moriah, Mason, Savannah, Fisher and Madelyn. She is also leaving numerous special nieces and nephews and close friends including Renee Carlson and Joannah Bauer.

A special thanks to Elaine of Meals on Wheels. The family also wishes to thank the Upstate 6A unit for their compassionate care. Jessie often spoke of how her grandmother first introduced her to God. Jessie and Irving both loved God and spent their lives going to church together. Before she left us, Jessie showed us the Bible that Irving had given her before they were even married. It was filled with expressions of her deep faith. She has now joined her beloved Irving and they are together in Heaven with the God they both love.
