Obituary of Christine M. Yackel

Christine M. Yackel, beloved sister, aunt and friend, passed away on September 24th at the age of 69.  After earning an undergraduate degree from Cornell University and a  master’s degree from Syracuse University’s  College of Visual and Performing Arts, she worked as an assistant Costumer for Syracuse Stage and then as an assistant professor of design  and environmental analysis at Cornell. In 1987, Chris joined the Syracuse University staff as communication manager in the Office of Development and later, as assistant director of development communications in the Office of Marketing and Communications, retiring as associate editor of the Syracuse University Magazine in 2015. During her tenure, she was instrumental in creating the Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service. Chris was a longtime member of the Syracuse University Oratorio Society. A talented writer, designer and quilter, her gentle spirit will be missed by many.

Daughter od Doris and Donald F. Yackel, she is survived by her siblings, Roberta Yackel, Jane Richer ( Gary), Donald D. Yackel (Lisa); 7 nieces and nephews and their children. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Unity Church, 300 West Seneca Tnpk., Syracuse on Sunday October 14th at 3:30 PM.
